China Commits to Taking Countermeasures Against U.S. Tariffs

On Tuesday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed its opposition to the U.S. decision to impose tariffs on Chinese products over fentanyl and other issues, vowing to take countermeasures that it says aim to protect its rights and interests.
The ministry stated in a statement that the United States “shifted the blame” and is using its problems with fentanyl as an excuse to impose tariffs. The United States claims that China supplies the chemicals used in fentanyl production. China has denied any wrongdoing.
The ministry urged the United States to “withdraw” its unilateral “unreasonable and baseless” tariffs that harm others.
