United Fans Prepare for New Protest Against the Glazer Family

A group of Manchester United supporters has urged fans to wear black in an anti-Glazer family protest ahead of the upcoming weekend, symbolizing the “slow death” of the historic club.
Manchester United fans are preparing to organize a fan march to Old Trafford before their match against Arsenal next Sunday in the Premier League. The march is scheduled to start from the Tolgate Pub.
The “1958 Fans Group” hopes this protest will be “one of the largest protests ever” against the Glazer family, who completed their leveraged buyout of the club in 2005. United supporters have expressed their opposition and anger ever since.
The group has called for the family to end their ownership of the club and urged fans to “wear black to symbolize that the club is dying slowly due to the massive debts, poor management, and exploitation of the fans.”
Steve Crompton, spokesperson for the “1958 Fans Group,” said, “The club is dying slowly before our eyes, on and off the pitch, and the blame rests entirely with the current owners.”
Crompton added, in statements reported by PA Media, “The club is facing a financial disaster. The debt is the road to ruin.”
He continued, “Sir Matt Busby would be turning in his grave given the current plight of one of the greatest institutions in world football, which has become a sad sight and a subject of ridicule in many ways.”
The Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) had organized a separate protest during the team’s match against Fulham on Sunday in the fifth round of the FA Cup. They joined Fulham’s supporters to protest ticket prices outside Old Trafford and then displayed banners inside the stadium as the teams entered the pitch.
Manchester United lost the match to Fulham on penalties, marking an early exit from the competition they won last season. This defeat added to their disappointing form this season, leaving them in 14th place in the Premier League.
Manchester United will return to action on Thursday, where they will face Real Sociedad in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16. The Europa League is now the only competition the Red Devils are aiming to win to avoid finishing the season without a trophy.
