Egypt’s Ambassador to Sudan, Hani Salah, announced that the restoration of the Shambat and Halfaia bridges will be carried out by Egyptian workers. He emphasized that the project has political, security, and fraternal significance, in addition to its economic importance. He referred to an agreement between the two countries, following a meeting between the Egyptian Prime Minister and Sudan’s Foreign Minister, to form a joint task force for Sudan’s reconstruction.
During a discussion session organized by the Ankara Center for Press Services in Port Sudan, Salah reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan.
He also expressed hope that Sudan would leverage the Gaza Reconstruction Conference to facilitate its own rebuilding efforts in the future.
Salah warned of unnamed parties exploiting the war to threaten the security of both Sudan and Egypt and highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the two nations, especially at this critical time.
Expressing surprise at the phrase “Thank you, Egypt” being used as the title of an initiative, he said, “What does ‘Thank you, Egypt’ mean? There’s no need to thank us. Do I thank my brother for standing by me in my hardship?”
Salah was pleased with the recent resumption of the Sudan-Egypt Political Consultation Committee, which had been inactive for nearly seven years.
