Diplomatic Tension or Understandings? A Heated Meeting Between Museveni and Agar on Sudan

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni firmly rejected the establishment of any parallel government in Sudan, emphasizing that dialogue is the only way to end the ongoing war in the country. This came during his meeting today at the presidential palace in Entebbe with the Vice President of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Commander Malik Agar, where Museveni also expressed his desire to visit Sudan soon.

Uganda’s Position on the Nairobi Meetings and the Political Charter

The meeting addressed Nairobi’s hosting of gatherings that included representatives of the rebel militia and its allies, during which they signed what is referred to as the “Political Charter.” The Vice President of the Sovereign Council clarified Sudan’s government stance on these developments, stressing that the correct path to ending the war lies in adhering to the Jeddah Declaration’s outcomes, ending the occupation of civilian facilities, and halting attacks on public service institutions.

The Issue of Sudan’s Suspension from the African Union

The discussion also covered Sudan’s suspension from the African Union. Agar explained that the union’s previous decision was based on a misreading of the situation, emphasizing the need to correct this course and restore Sudan to its rightful role within the continental organization.

An Official Visit Accompanied by a Diplomatic Delegation

Accompanying the Vice President of the Sovereign Council on his visit to Uganda is Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin Al-Fadil. This visit is part of Sudan’s diplomatic efforts to rally regional and international support for resolving the ongoing crisis.
