Restructuring of the National Consumer Affairs Committee

The Director General of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO), Rahba Saeed Abdullah, issued Decision No. (15) for the year 2025, announcing the formation of the National Consumer Affairs Committee for 2025.
This decision aligns with the organization’s continued efforts to coordinate with relevant consumer protection entities, ensuring the enforcement of standard specifications and combating harmful practices affecting consumer health and safety. It also follows international trends in establishing national consumer affairs committees and responds to urgent needs during wartime.
Rahba explained that the committee’s role includes coordinating efforts among relevant authorities, organizing joint campaigns to combat fraud and illegal businesses, and restructuring the Unified Consumer Protection Team for rapid response to consumer complaints via hotline 5960. She also instructed regional branches to form and activate state-level committees.
The committee comprises representatives from:
- Ministries: Health, Agriculture, Trade, Industry, and Federal Governance Bureau
- National entities: The National Council for Pharmacy and Poisons, the Consumer Protection and Public Health Prosecution
- Law enforcement: General Administration of Supply Investigations, Consumer Protection Investigations, Sudanese Customs Forces, Military Intelligence, and Economic Security Authority
- Other bodies: The National Consumer Protection Authority, Quality Assurance and Monitoring Department, and International Relations Unit within SSMO.
