Taliban Urges Pakistan and Iran to Slow Down Afghan Repatriation

The Afghan Taliban movement on Thursday called on its neighbors, Pakistan and Iran, to show patience with Afghan refugees and adopt organized procedures for their return, given Afghanistan’s ongoing economic challenges.

Since the end of the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan in August 2021, Pakistan and Iran have repatriated more than 2.7 million Afghans.

Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, Acting Minister for Refugees and Repatriation in the Taliban government, held separate meetings in Kabul with Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, Pakistan’s acting ambassador to Afghanistan, and Ali Reza Bekdeli, Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan.
