The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) announced today the death of Major General Dak, the commander of South Sudan Defense Forces, during fierce clashes and the crash of his helicopter in the town of Nasir, Upper Nile State.
According to the mission’s statement, Major General Dak and all crew members of the helicopter were killed while attempting to evacuate him from the city. This came after he had barricaded himself in a tank with 11 of his soldiers for three days following the fall of Nasir to the “White Army.”
