Sudan Electricity Company Announces Scheduled Power Outages in the East

Sudan Electricity Company has announced the implementation of a temporary program to reduce power load until the situation stabilizes. This was stated in a press release on Friday, attributing the cause to a shortage in production at the Atbara and Setit dams due to a drop in water levels, and the disruption of the transmission line supplying the eastern grid from the Merowe Dam, as it passes through areas of military operations. Additionally, the suspension of the Ethiopian electricity link has affected large parts of the eastern network.
The company confirmed that consultations are underway with the Ethiopian side to restore electricity supply as soon as possible. Efforts are also being made to complete the maintenance of the lines connecting with the Merowe Dam power station once the security situation stabilizes.
The Sudan Electricity Company expressed its gratitude to the citizens of the eastern region for their patience amidst the current power outages, apologizing for the interruptions caused by repeated damages due to attacks by rebel militias on the network in several locations.
