Revealing the Presence of Thousands of Sudanese in 39 Secret Militia Detention Centers

The United Nations Human Rights Commission has revealed that the Rapid Support Forces militia has imprisoned more than 10,000 people in detention centers within Khartoum State, with hundreds of them having died due to torture and illness.

The Commission published a report covering the period from April 15, 2023, to June 2024, detailing human rights violations and breaches of international humanitarian law in the militia’s detention facilities in Khartoum.

The report stated that the Commission had confirmed the existence of 39 detention facilities used by the militia, where approximately 10,000 people were held during the covered period.

It also mentioned that Soba Prison is the largest of the militia’s detention centers, followed by a complex in Riyadh, east of Khartoum, in addition to various infrastructure facilities repurposed as detention centers, including residential buildings, government offices, police stations, schools, a court, two universities, a kindergarten, a store, a factory, and three military bases.
