Plans for a New Market in Shendi

Sudan Events – Reports

Shendi Locality Executive Director, Khalid Abdel Ghaffar Al-Sheikh, has announced plans to establish new markets to accommodate the growing number of merchants and the natural expansion of commercial activities.

He revealed that a new market is being developed south of the Oncology Hospital in collaboration with Shendi University. The first phase of the project will include over 300 shops.

The new market aims to provide an organized and structured commercial environment while addressing the issue of makeshift kiosks that contribute to visual and aesthetic distortions in the city center.

During a meeting with Abu Bakr Mohamed Al-Ameen, Secretary-General of the Local Development Fund in River Nile State, Al-Sheikh outlined Shendi’s 2025 development strategy. The plan includes expanding revenue-generating resources to keep pace with the town’s rapid growth and urban development, particularly in the city center and residential districts. The goal is to enhance service infrastructure and environmental sanitation efforts.

He also announced that the River Nile State government had approved the establishment of an industrial city spanning 80,000 square meters, which will accommodate more than 20 factories.
