The Governor of Darfur and leader of the Sudan Liberation Army, Minni Arko Minawi, has warned of a severe deterioration in the humanitarian situation in El Fasher, North Darfur.
According to Sudan Tribune, he stated that the RSF has deliberately cut off food supplies in rural areas by setting fires and has also targeted hospitals and water resources. “Right now, there is no medicine in El Fasher,” he affirmed, accusing the RSF of pursuing a policy of starving civilians. He emphasized that the only viable solution at this stage is to open supply routes to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
El Fasher has been witnessing ongoing battles since last May, with the RSF imposing a siege on the city.
Minawi reassured that “the military and operational situation in El Fasher is fully under control,” adding, “We are confident at the moment.”
Regarding reports of an alliance between the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement led by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, Minawi acknowledged that such a military alliance could bring short-term battlefield gains but warned that, in the long run, it could lead to scattered civil wars in these regions and among the alliance’s factions themselves.
