Sudan Events – Reports
Dorothy Shea, the acting head of the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, condemned the widespread conflict-related sexual violence committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias in Sudan.
She described these horrific acts—including rape and gang rape, even against children as young as one year old—as “simply unacceptable.”
Speaking at a UN Security Council session, Shea called for accountability for those responsible for sexual violence and for those who continue fueling the conflict by violating the arms embargo on Darfur from neighboring countries. She urged an immediate end to hostilities, unimpeded humanitarian access, and the protection of civilians.
Shea also emphasized that the U.S. has made it clear to both the Sudanese army and the RSF that their best interests lie in disarming and ending the conflict, as its continuation threatens regional and international stability.
