Sudan Events – Report
On Sunday, during Taraweeh prayers, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia shelled neighborhoods in western Thawra using a rocket launcher, resulting in the deaths of four civilians and injuries to 30 others, most of whom were children.
Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza oversaw the emergency response efforts, as hospital staff, led by Director Jamal Al-Tayeb, made extraordinary efforts to rescue and treat the victims, rushing them into urgent surgeries.
The governor condemned the militia’s targeting of civilians, stating, “Every time the militia is defeated on the battlefield, they resort to retaliating against citizens.” He offered his condolences to the victims’ families, who had filled the hospital’s emergency department.
The shelling targeted residential neighborhoods, including Block 29, 43, and 50 in Al-Merikhiyat, as children were playing football in a field. Civilians inside their homes were also affected.
According to Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin, Acting Minister of Health, the casualties included a man, a woman, and two children, while 30 others were injured, among them 18 children aged between 4 and 12 years old.
Dr. Fath Al-Rahman strongly condemned the systematic and ongoing targeting of unarmed civilians in densely populated residential areas of Karari during Ramadan, a time of increased evening activity in the locality.
