The UK and the European Union to Hold a High-Level Conference on Sudan in April

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

The European Union announced that it, along with the UK and other countries, intends to organize a high-level conference on the Sudan crisis in London in mid-April.

The Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations stated in a statement that “the EU, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany are hosting a high-level conference on the Sudan crisis.” It added that the conference would take place in the British capital, London, on April 15.

On March 13, the European Union hosted the third meeting of senior humanitarian officials on Sudan, which included donors, UN agencies, the Red Cross, international NGOs, and local response teams.

The meeting explored the possibility of holding a diplomatic humanitarian forum to propose initial steps for expanding the humanitarian response with the conflict parties.

The proposed forum aims to find ways to provide safe corridors for humanitarian workers, supplies, and civilians across frontlines, protect infrastructure, eliminate bureaucratic barriers, and secure commitments for providing protection services.

Participants emphasized their collective commitment to meeting the humanitarian needs of Sudanese people and urged the conflict parties to protect civilians, civil infrastructure, and medical facilities, ensure the delivery of aid to those in need, and prohibit sexual violence and gender-based violence.
