Washington Threatens Additional Sanctions on Venezuela if It Refuses Deported Nationals

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio threatened on Tuesday to impose additional sanctions on Venezuela if it refuses to accept its nationals deported from the United States.
In a post on X, Rubio stated, “Unless the Maduro regime continues to allow deportation flights without excuses or delays, the United States will impose new, strict, and escalating sanctions.”
According to Reuters, Venezuela’s Ministry of Communications has not yet issued a response.
President Nicolás Maduro and his government have consistently rejected U.S. and international sanctions, calling them illegal measures and a form of “economic warfare” aimed at crippling Venezuela. While Maduro and his allies have praised what they describe as the country’s resilience in the face of these measures, they also frequently acknowledge that sanctions have contributed to economic difficulties and shortages.
