Russia: Western Attempts to Equate Sudanese Authorities with Militias are “Hypocritical”

Sudan Events – Agencies

The Russian Ambassador to Sudan, Andrei Chernovol, stated that the Sudanese army’s recent victories in central Sudan have demonstrated that the legitimate authorities have confidently regained the initiative, fully liberating the states of Al-Jazira and Sennar from the rebels’ grip. He noted that the army is approaching the elimination of the besieged RSF forces in Khartoum.

According to the Russian Eurasia Daily agency, Chernovol criticized international officials and Western diplomats for attempting to equate the legitimate Sudanese authorities with the RSF in their current form. He described this as “a form of hypocrisy,” arguing that holding both sides equally responsible for the current humanitarian crisis is misleading.

He added that the outcomes of the Nairobi Conference “clearly aim to dismantle the country.” From a legal perspective, he stated, “such decisions made by a self-proclaimed legitimate group outside the country hold no real authority. Practically, these ideas seem difficult to implement given the rapid loss of territory by the rebels.”

Regarding the establishment of a Russian naval base in the Red Sea, Chernovol stated that setting up a technical support point for the Russian navy is a military matter. However, he noted, “The presence of such a base would significantly contribute to political stability in the Red Sea region, especially in Sudan. It would also provide reassurance to foreign investors—not just Russians—who currently fear for the security of their capital.”
