13 Nigerien Soldiers Killed

Thirteen Nigerien soldiers were killed, and at least seven others were wounded in two separate attacks in the border areas of Niger.

In a statement, the Nigerien army explained that a military post near the city of Diffa, on the border with Nigeria, was attacked by about 300 militants belonging to the terrorist group Boko Haram, resulting in the death of four soldiers. The statement added that the army managed to destroy a convoy of 30 motorcycles and kill around 50 militants, while the remaining attackers fled to Nigeria.

On Wednesday, the army stated that on March 17, the Chétima Wangou military post near Diffa was attacked by “a group of about 300 fighters” from Boko Haram. The statement clarified that the attackers “were determined to breach the defense lines” and “deployed explosive-laden vehicles,” which led to the death of four soldiers.
