A meeting was held at one of the agricultural projects along the Sudan-South Sudan border, bringing together military leaders from the 17th Division in Sennar State and their counterparts from the South Sudanese People’s Army in Renk, Upper Nile State.
Colonel Rukn Khiyar Abdel Nabi Dafallah, Deputy Commander of the 66th Brigade in Al-Mazmoum, stated that the meeting aimed to discuss issues related to border security and the deployment of both countries’ armies to ensure stability. This came after the Sudanese Armed Forces expelled the RSF militia and ended their presence in the border region between Sudan and South Sudan. He described the meeting as productive and beneficial for enhancing security and stability in the area.
He added that the meeting with South Sudanese military leaders would be followed by an upcoming meeting with farmers from the border strip in Sennar, Blue Nile, and White Nile states to discuss key agricultural concerns, particularly securing the farming season.
Bakheet Qamar Al-Dawla, representing farmers from the western Mazmoum border area, expressed hope that this meeting would put an end to the hardships faced by local farmers due to encroachments by some traditional leaders from South Sudan, who have repeatedly seized Sudanese agricultural lands. He highlighted recurring violations in the area, including the arrest of northern Sudanese farmers and demands for large sums of money by Upper Nile authorities in South Sudan. He emphasized that border farmers stand in full support of the Sudanese Armed Forces in their efforts to eliminate rebellion and secure the nation’s borders.
