Wheat Harvesting Plan in Halfa Locality

Abu Obaida Mirghani Burhan, the Executive Director of Halfa Locality in the Northern State, chaired a meeting of the Winter Season 2024/2025 Harvesting Committee in his office on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Eng. Roshdi Ahmed Suleiman, the Director of Agriculture in the locality, reviewed the targeted wheat harvest areas, which include 4,369 feddans in the Abri unit and 500 feddans in the Halfa administrative unit. He highlighted the actual need for harvesting machinery, particularly for large agricultural projects in the region, and emphasized the importance of securing diesel fuel and jute sacks.

Regarding production rates for other crops:

Egyptian faba beans yielded 15 sacks per feddan

Potatoes produced 7 tons per feddan

Onions yielded 103.5 sacks per feddan

Garlic production reached 1,400 tons

The Director of Agriculture stated that Halfa Locality surpassed the cultivated land area of previous years, increasing wheat cultivation by 1,698 feddans. He attributed this expansion to the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Halfa Locality in providing fertilizers and seeds, as well as the commitment of local farmers and youth to agricultural expansion. He also noted the locality’s efforts in overcoming challenges and providing essential machinery, especially for large-scale projects.

The Executive Director and Chairman of the Harvesting Committee commended the significant efforts made since the preparation phase of the winter season. He instructed the committee to coordinate with the Higher Harvesting Committee to secure additional large harvesters. He also emphasized the need for regulations governing their use based on technical agricultural priorities.

Additionally, he stressed the necessity of supervisory committees in administrative units to monitor and enforce harvesting regulations and resolve issues promptly. He called for securing the required quantities of jute sacks for both Halfa and Abri units and directed the locality’s petroleum department to provide the necessary fuel for the harvest in coordination with the Harvesting Committee and the Agricultural Administration. Finally, he urged the committee to set a specific timeframe for starting the wheat harvest in April 2025.
