The Acting Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Amal Abdu, stated in a press conference marking World Tuberculosis Day that the occasion represents an opportunity to reaffirm commitment to fighting the disease and achieving tangible progress.
Amal acknowledged that political, economic, and security challenges have significantly affected treatment and access to healthcare services. However, she expressed pride in the ministry’s efforts and those of its partners in continuing to provide services through 148 centers in secure areas and delivering treatment to war-affected states through collaboration with international and local organizations. She revealed that 14,310 tuberculosis cases were recorded in 2024.
Amal also noted cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to rehabilitate three centers and continue upgrading tuberculosis sample cultivation centers in several states. She affirmed Sudan’s commitment to eradicating the disease with support from local and international partners.
