Thomas Müller May Not Renew His Contract with Bayern

The German newspaper Bild reported on Friday that Thomas Müller, the legendary Bayern Munich player, may not renew his contract for another season.

According to the renowned newspaper, Müller has not yet been offered a contract that satisfies both parties, adding that a decision regarding his future will be announced soon.

The newspaper wrote: “No new contract for the player,” noting that Bayern is seeking to keep him at the club in a different capacity.

Müller (35) joined Bayern at a young age and has spent his entire football career with the Bavarian club, playing in nearly 750 matches—a record in the club’s history.

Müller is also the most successful player in Bayern’s history, having won 12 Bundesliga titles, 6 DFB-Pokal titles, and two UEFA Champions League titles with the club.

Christoph Freund, Bayern’s sporting director, stated on Friday: “We are in negotiations with Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and Eric Dier. When there is something worth announcing, we will share it.”

Bayern has prioritized renewing the contracts of key players Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, and Alphonso Davies, securing their presence with the team until 2030. The club has also extended the contract of veteran goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer until 2026.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sporting affairs, recently said: “We had a plan from the start of the season. There were players we were keen to extend their contracts with due to their significant importance for the club’s future. Everything has gone as we envisioned and hoped.”

Regarding the three other players, Eberl added: “Thomas is a very special player. Leroy is an outstanding player. The same applies to Eric Dier.”

The Champions League final, scheduled for May 31 at Bayern’s home ground, the Allianz Arena, could be a decisive match for Müller, who won the 2014 World Cup with Germany.

Müller played in the 2012 Champions League final at the same stadium, where he scored but was unable to lead Bayern to victory, as they lost to Chelsea in a penalty shootout.
