Increase in Complaints Over the “Cash” Crisis

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

Citizens have complained about the worsening “cash” crisis after banks refrained from granting customers the daily withdrawal limit set by the Central Bank of Sudan, which is 200,000 Sudanese pounds.

Most banks have limited customer withdrawals to only 50,000 pounds, while a few have allowed up to 100,000 pounds. Meanwhile, some customers reported being unable to withdraw any amount from their accounts after standing in withdrawal queues since early morning, only to be told that the cash supply had run out. They were offered the option to either return at another time or transfer funds to other bank accounts using the “Bankak” app.

Customers also complained about complications when using banking apps such as “Bankak” and “Ocash,” which are widely used in stores, pharmacies, and other businesses, due to poor internet service. They called on the authorities to decouple banking apps from internet dependency.

While customers expressed no objection to the shift toward reducing cash transactions, they insisted on improving the telecommunications network.
