Increase in Imports to Sudan

The Director of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Corporation (SSMC) for the Nile River sector, Ahmed Sayed Ahmed Omar, confirmed that the monitoring of import activities during March has been progressing smoothly in coordination with Sudanese Customs and other relevant authorities.

He stated that China remains the largest exporter, accounting for 95% of imports, while other countries account for 5%. Imports include shoes, fabrics, household utensils, agricultural pumps, mining inputs, agricultural equipment, and industrial production inputs. He noted that the corporation is working to strengthen its oversight role to protect consumers and the national economy and to enhance the monitoring of exports and imports.

Ahmed added that the corporation is focused on measuring and calibrating imports to ensure the accuracy of goods in terms of quantity, weight, and measurement.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Atbara Customs Station, Police Brigadier General Ali Al-Bushra Ali Abdullah, revealed a noticeable increase in import activity at the customs facility, with weekly container shipments rising from 80 to approximately 140. This increase requires additional effort and enhanced coordination between Customs and the Standards Corporation.
