Sudan Events – Rahab Abdullah

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Bushra announced that committees have begun assessing the damage to agricultural projects caused by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.

In an interview with Al-Ahdath, he stated that the report will be submitted to the ministry immediately after the Eid al-Fitr holiday and forwarded to the relevant authorities and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning. The goal is to convert the findings into monetary compensation to begin reconstruction. He confirmed that the assessment committees revealed extensive and systematic destruction of projects.

The minister also announced plans to cultivate the liberated agricultural areas in the upcoming summer season, adding, “We are eager to farm the lands that have returned to the embrace of the nation.”

He offered reassurances regarding the food supply situation in the country, noting that this year’s grain production exceeded last year’s by 7%. The Crop Production and International Food Flow Assessment Committee confirmed that Sudan’s sorghum production surpasses the country’s annual consumption needs.

He further revealed plans to build a strategic reserve and begin exporting sorghum, millet, sesame, peanuts, and cotton this year. Arrangements are also underway to resume exports of gum arabic following the lifting of restrictions on the city of El Obeid.
