A human rights observatory reported that clashes in the Malha area of North Darfur have left more than 100 civilian casualties, accusing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia of committing widespread violations against the town’s residents.
On March 20, the RSF militia announced its control over the town before committing atrocities against the population, including killings and forced displacement.
According to a statement by the Malha Human Rights Center, cited by Sudan Tribune, “initial reports confirmed the burial of more than 100 martyrs from Malha, including dozens of unidentified victims, as a result of the clashes that took place in the area on March 20.”
The center strongly condemned the violations against civilians, their lives, and their properties following the RSF’s takeover of the local government headquarters. It accused the militia of carrying out horrific crimes against unarmed citizens, including murder, torture, looting, and the burning of markets and institutions.
Despite the RSF’s control over the locality, civilians continued to face extrajudicial killings, with unarmed residents being shot in markets and inside their homes during forced break-ins aimed at theft.
The violations extended beyond the local government headquarters to various administrative units, where livestock thefts led to further killings as citizens attempted to defend their lives and property.
Shortly after taking control of Malha, the RSF assassinated tribal leaders from the Midob ethnic group, along with civil servants, community figures, religious leaders, and emergency response volunteers.
