Beware of the French organization “Promediation”

By: Mohamed Othman Ibrahim

This is a group that poses a serious threat to Sudan’s security, stability, and future.

This shadowy organization previously worked with rebels in Mali, funded by Norway under the pretext of achieving peace between the government and Arab and Islamist extremists.
Its operations in Mali ended after a military coup that successfully suppressed the rebel groups.

Now, the organization has launched dangerous activities targeting Sudan, coordinating between Khalifa Haftar’s faction in Libya, Hemedti in Sudan, and their backers. This coordination took place in Niger with the aim of forming a political party loyal to Hemedti, composed of African Arab mercenaries who had formerly fought in Libya.

The plan was for them to enter Sudan with their weapons and 30,000 fighters, and for the government to sign a peace agreement with them.

Ten months before the war, one of these meetings took place in Niger’s capital, Niamey, attended by Major General Mohamed Ahmed Subair (Military Intelligence Chief), Major General Hamza Youssef, and others. On the mercenaries’ side, the attendees included the notorious criminal Ali Safna.

Hemedti rushed into war before this group could fully arrive and be integrated into the state apparatus. But by divine will, a military coup took place in Niger, led by Hausa officers who overthrew former President Mohamed Bazoum, who belongs to the Arab minority.

Promediation has now returned to meddle in Sudanese affairs through the eastern region. France’s ambitions in Port Sudan are no secret. The French company managing Abidjan Port in Côte d’Ivoire had submitted a proposal to Sudan to operate the Red Sea ports and build a railway line from Port Sudan to West Africa.

I happened to attend a presentation by this company and its plans in Khartoum, delivered to former Investment Minister Mubarak Al-Fadil Al-Mahdi, in the presence of French Ambassador – and current Africa Affairs official at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Emmanuelle Blatmann, around late 2017.

Promediation is run by Eric Blanchot (pictured), a former academic at several French universities. He rarely appears in the media and is an expert in history, Islamic studies, and social psychology.

One wonders, what are they plotting for Sudan this time?
