Sudan Calls on the United Nations to Intervene with its Aircraft to Save the Lives of El Fasher Citizens

Member of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief, Major General Engineer Ibrahim Jaber, has called on representatives of UN agencies and UN missions in Sudan to exert more pressure on the rebel militia to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to displacement camps around the city of El Fasher.

During a meeting on Saturday with a UN delegation led by the Deputy Resident Representative of the UN for Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan, Christina Hamborg, in the presence of the Minister of Information, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Acting Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, he emphasized the government’s commitment to cooperate and coordinate with all relevant parties to facilitate the passage of humanitarian aid to all its deserving recipients in the country.

For her part, Deputy UN Resident Representative for Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan, Christina Hamborg, expressed the UN’s readiness to present a proposal to all parties that would contribute to addressing the complex humanitarian situation in the city of El Fasher and the Zamzam displacement camp.

Minister of Culture and Information, government spokesperson Khalid Al-Aysar, explained that the Sudanese government had asked the UN to intervene with its aircraft and transporters under its auspices to save the lives of the citizens of El Fasher and its surrounding areas.

He stated that the government had urged UN representatives to document all the rebel militia’s crimes against citizens, including bombings and sieges, and report them to the relevant UN bodies.

Al-Aysar reiterated the Sudanese government’s rejection of political interference in humanitarian work, considering it a violation of humanitarian values and international conventions.
