Arrangements in Northern Sudan to Solve the Crisis of Stranded Returnees at Arqin and Ashkit Crossings

The Governor of Northern State, Abdeen Awadallah, discussed with the Humanitarian Aid Commissioner in the state, Dr. Abdul Rahman Ali Khairi, the Secretary of Social Affairs Manal Makawi, and the Secretary of the Zakat Chamber Hadi Mohamed Ahmed, the arrangements and joint coordination with relevant authorities to address the issue of displaced people stranded at the Arqin and Ashkit border crossings, who are returning from Egypt as part of the voluntary return program.

Dr. Abdul Rahman explained that around fifty buses carrying 1,250 people arrive daily at the two crossings.

He noted that 2,500 people are currently stranded at the Arqin crossing and are in urgent need of food, water, health services, and shelter. He added that the border crossings are not equipped to receive such large numbers of returnees.

Khairi called on humanitarian organizations to intervene and provide essential services to the returnees.
