Jibril Responds to Irrigation Crisis and Input Provision in Gezira Scheme

Mr. Sufian Al-Basha, a member of the Committee for Reconstructing War-Damaged Areas in the Gezira Project and the Agricultural Research and Rahad Authorities, announced the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning’s response to resolving irrigation issues, clearing silt and weeds from canals, removing trees, and repairing canal breaches, in addition to providing production inputs to farmers in the Gezira Scheme.

In a statement to SUNA, Al-Basha revealed that the Minister of Finance agreed to include the agriculture sector—especially the Gezira Project—within the files to be addressed through the Saudi support program. He noted the strong response and firm commitment of the minister to support the resolution of problems facing both the Gezira and Managil projects and his adoption of farmers’ causes.

Al-Basha also mentioned that the reconstruction committee, along with the Agricultural Research and Rahad Authorities, had formed a technical team to assess the extent of the damage and determine the urgent requirements for addressing irrigation problems, especially in canals and distributary systems, and to secure production inputs. These steps aim to restore life to the Gezira Scheme following the extensive damage caused by the recent attacks.

He emphasized that the Sovereignty Council is paying close attention to the committee’s work and is closely monitoring its progress.
