The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan stated that the situation in the Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) remains tragic, with families facing hunger and thirst amid worsening daily suffering.
Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, told “Al-Tara Sudan” that the residents of Zamzam are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. She affirmed the UN’s readiness to respond, but emphasized the necessity of safe and sustained access, describing it as “essential.”
The UN’s OCHA in Sudan reported that hunger is forcing people in the Zamzam camp to eat the leftover crushed grains used for oil production, known as “ambaz”—a substance typically fed to animals. Nkweta-Salami added: “The fighting must stop.”
