Wheat Harvesting Begins in White Nile State

Today, wheat harvesting operations began in White Nile State across several irrigated projects and Nile pump stations, covering 63% of the total area cultivated with winter crops this season.

Engineer Wissal Al-Sheikh Farah, the acting Minister of Production and Economic Resources in White Nile State, stated to SUNA during her participation in the wheat harvest in the Nile pump stations in the locality of Guli, that the 2024–2025 winter season faced several challenges, including limited funding, a shortage of production inputs, high costs of fertilizers and seeds, and the lack of support from food security organizations for small-scale farmers. Additionally, crops suffered from water shortages during some growth stages.

Despite these challenges, the Minister explained that joint efforts enabled the state to cultivate over 33,000 feddans with winter crops, of which 63% was wheat. She pointed out that the average productivity in the harvested areas reached 22 sacks per feddan, each weighing 90 kilograms, and initial indicators suggest promising yields.
