An Initiative by Farmers and Machinery Owners in the Gezira Scheme to Repair Irrigation Canals

Professor Taher Ibrahim Al-Kheir, the Governor of Gezira State, relied on the role of the farmers of the Gezira Scheme in boosting the national economy.

During his meeting this morning in his office with a delegation of farmers from the Salimi office in the Gezira Scheme, headed by Professor Abdel-Wahid Awad Hussein, he announced his donation of a solar power unit to the Al-Azaza Center for Technology and his sponsorship of initiatives aimed at supporting agricultural, livestock, and economic production. He reiterated his commitment to utilizing all the resources and capabilities of the state to ensure that the Gezira Scheme becomes a driving force for the Sudanese economy. He praised the farmers of the Gezira Scheme in its various departments for their support to the armed forces and their ability to achieve high production rates during the war, as well as their determination to continue farming and overcoming challenges.

On his part, the head of the delegation explained that the purpose of the meeting was to reform the Gezira Scheme and find solutions to the irrigation problems and obstacles to production, such as financing, seeds, and fertilizers.

Farmer Tayeb Mohamed Bakheet Al-Shayqab explained that the initiative of the farmers and machinery owners aims to repair the irrigation canals, similar to the successful experience of the Managil Extension Project. The delegation expressed their gratitude to the Governor for his support, attention, and commitment to the initiative.
