Minister of Finance Meets with Senior IMF Official

Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, stated that the Sudanese delegation participating in the Joint Annual Meetings of Arab Financial Institutions held a fruitful meeting today with Mr. Jihad Azour, Director of the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and Caucasus Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In a post on Facebook, he said the meeting discussed ways to strengthen the technical support provided by the IMF to Sudan, particularly in accelerating digital transformation in key financial institutions, including the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Sudan, and the Central Bureau of Statistics, to improve performance efficiency, enhance transparency, and strengthen governance.

He added, “We also discussed ways to resume Sudan’s participation in the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative for debt relief, as it is a pivotal step in the path of economic reform and easing the burden of external debt. These discussions will continue during the upcoming IMF meetings in Washington, D.C., at the end of this month.”
