Minister of the Interior: The government is keen on protecting civilians

The Minister of the Interior, Police General Khalil Pasha Sayirin, confirmed Sudan’s commitment to protecting civilians during times of war, adhering to all international initiatives and agreements.

In a briefing session about Sudan’s complaint against the UAE before the International Court of Justice on Wednesday, he pointed to the government’s efforts in enhancing protection capabilities for civilians, ensuring their rights, and providing humanitarian assistance.

He revealed the reorganization of the national mechanism for civilian protection to include all areas affected by the war. Subcommittees were formed in all states to provide the mechanism with international reports on civilian protection.

The Interior Minister stated that the plan for the mechanism includes halting the flow of weapons to the militia and classifying them as a terrorist militia, emphasizing that the challenges lie in the United Nations’ failure to comply with its 2004 decision to prevent the supply of arms to Darfur.

The minister referred to the incidents and observations that incriminate the Rapid Support Forces militia for committing violations against civilians, including killing, taking civilian hostages, assaulting the dignity of women, the elderly, and children, issuing verdicts without trial, as well as the widespread violations committed by the militia against prisoners and the deprivation of rights of the wounded and sick.

He added that the new plan of the mechanism focuses on providing humanitarian assistance, disarmament, strengthening national community reconciliation, peaceful coexistence, and spreading a culture of peace.
