Desert Locust Control Campaign in the Red Sea State

Mubarak Osman Hamdan, Director General of the Plant Protection Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture, inspected teams participating in the desert locust control campaign in the Red Sea State.
The visit included the Tokar Delta Project in Tokar Locality, and the areas of Aiteerba and Qarora in the border locality of Agig near Eritrea, on Thursday and Friday.
Mubarak praised the great efforts exerted by the teams in combating locusts, noting that the purpose of the visit was to assess the performance and efficiency of the operations in these camps, which cover a large portion of the border areas. He confirmed that the situation is under control in all regions so far and commended the teams’ performance in Northern State, River Nile State, and Red Sea State.
He also appreciated the efforts of partners in providing all necessary resources and supplies for the campaigns, particularly the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the FAO.
Mubarak stated that preparations are currently underway for the upcoming summer season, including a joint control campaign with Eritrea, as locusts pose a threat to producers in both the agricultural and livestock sectors.
