IMF Intends to Propose New Fiscal Policies for Sudan

Minister of Finance Dr. Gibril Ibrahim also met with Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Turki, Director General and Chairman of the Arab Monetary Fund, on the sidelines of the joint annual meetings of the Arab financial institutions held in Kuwait.

The meeting focused on several important strategic axes, emphasizing effective ways to address the accumulation of compound interest in line with Sudan’s current exceptional situation, as part of a joint effort to establish mechanisms that ensure economic stability and foster comprehensive development.

An in-depth discussion took place on enhancing mutual cooperation, especially in light of current global challenges. Both sides exchanged experiences related to the difficulties facing fiscal policy. They also reviewed economic developments in the Arab region and the impact of successive crises, including regional geopolitical tensions, all of which helped shape the Fund’s upcoming public policy directions and the activities it will undertake to address present challenges.

Dr. Gibril emphasized the importance of increasing intra-Arab trade to deepen cooperation and mitigate internal and external shocks. He added that the successful development experiences achieved by several Arab countries—whether in economic reforms or infrastructure development—offer promising investment opportunities that can help shape a brighter economic future.

Despite the exceptional circumstances resulting from war and ongoing global challenges, the Minister affirmed that Sudan is adopting balanced strategies, policies, and measures to contain these shocks and achieve stability.

For his part, Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Turki expressed the Fund’s readiness to provide technical expertise, training programs, and human capacity development, within the framework of enhancing cooperation with its partners and offering advice and support to promote more efficient fiscal policies in addressing current challenges.
