$76.8 Million Grant from the African Development Bank to Sudan

The African Development Bank has announced a comprehensive program covering the education, health, and water sectors to be implemented in Sudan, as part of the restructuring of the bank’s funded projects.
Mr. Rufus N., Executive Director for Sudan at the Bank, revealed the extension of Sudan’s country program until 2026 in consideration of the ongoing war, which has hindered the launch of a new funding program following the expiration of the previous one at the end of 2024.
During his meeting with the Executive Director at the Ministry Complex, with the participation of Dr. Mohammed Bashar Mohammed, Undersecretary for Planning, Minister of Finance Dr. Jibreel Ibrahim expressed the government’s commitment to strengthening its cooperation with the bank. He praised the bank’s continuous support to vital and developmental sectors and its willingness to participate in reconstruction efforts. He emphasized the significance of the Executive Director’s visit during these exceptional circumstances.
For his part, Dr. Bashar reiterated the government’s commitment to identifying priorities for new projects by sector. He commended the bank’s support for the economy and institutional development, as well as its contribution to food security through wheat production, with a grant totaling $76.8 million.
The Executive Director praised Sudan’s consistent repayment of its arrears and stressed the importance of the Minister of Finance’s participation in the African Development Bank Group’s annual meetings scheduled for the last week of May.
