Geological Research: Significant Reserves of Economic Minerals in Northern State

The local branch of the General Authority for Geological Research in Northern State confirmed the ministry’s and authority’s interest in industrial minerals and their importance in driving both local and national economic development.

During a meeting with the Governor of Northern State on Tuesday, the office’s Director and Consulting Geologist, Mudathir Rajab, affirmed the presence of economically viable minerals such as marble, sandstone, and zeolite ore—which is used in the production of agricultural fertilizers—and noted that the state possesses significant reserves of zeolite.

For his part, Northern State Governor Abdeen Awadallah called for a review of concession and small-scale mining agreements signed with companies for gold mining. He emphasized that some companies have signed agreements years ago without taking any tangible action, calling for the revocation of those blocks and re-licensing them to more serious companies.
