Khartoum State Government Resumes Work from its Headquarters in Khartoum

The Khartoum State Government officially resumed its work today from its headquarters in Khartoum, coinciding with the second anniversary of the war.

Governor of Khartoum, Mr. Ahmed Othman Hamza, stated that despite the systematic destruction of infrastructure—including electricity, water, and sewage systems—by the rebel militia, there is a strong will to work and move forward with reconstruction efforts.

The Governor shared optimistic news, saying that within two days, the remaining militia pockets in Ombada and southern Omdurman will be defeated.

Today, the Governor also launched a comprehensive disinfection and sanitation campaign, led by the Director General of the Civil Defense Department, Police Lieutenant General Dr. Othman Atta Mustafa, who arrived in Khartoum heading a delegation that included top civil defense officials. The delegation brought a significant number of fire trucks, ambulances, a river rescue boat, and sanitation equipment and supplies.

The campaign was joined by the Secretary General of Khartoum State Government, Al-Hadi Abdel-Sayed Ibrahim, along with the directors general of the ministries of Health, Infrastructure, Culture and Information, as well as the executive directors of Khartoum and Omdurman localities.

The Governor praised the performance of the police, who have resumed operations from their headquarters in Khartoum and reopened several police stations in Khartoum and Jebel Aulia.

He added, “Civil defense forces have stood by us in dealing with the aftermath of the war, including retrieving bodies from wells and helping supply drinking water by tanker trucks during power outages.”

The Governor also addressed ongoing efforts to collect and remove abandoned vehicle bodies, clean streets, remove rubble, and reopen blocked roads throughout Khartoum.

He said, “Contractors have been brought in to assist, and the situation now is much better than it was a week ago, when it was difficult even to pass through the streets. The launch of the civil defense’s comprehensive campaign will mark a major shift, especially with the large number of Sudanese people currently at border crossings on their way to Khartoum. We must improve conditions and be prepared to welcome them.”
