Matthäus Urges Bayern to Start Müller Against Inter

Lothar Matthäus, former captain of Bayern Munich and the German national team, has stressed that Thomas Müller should be included in the starting lineup for Bayern’s match against Inter Milan tomorrow, Wednesday, in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
In his column on the official website of Sky Sports, Matthäus wrote: “Müller must play. Anything else seems unthinkable from my point of view.”
He added: “If (Vincent) Kompany decides not to start Müller and things go wrong, the coach—who has done brilliantly in recent months—will be under pressure.”
Bayern must win by at least two goals at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan to continue their Champions League journey and secure a place in the semifinals, following a surprising 2-1 defeat in the first leg at home last week.
Müller did not start in the first leg at Allianz Arena, Bayern’s home stadium, but came off the bench to score the team’s only goal. He then started in Bayern’s 2-2 Bundesliga draw against their archrival Borussia Dortmund last Saturday.
Both matches came after it was announced that Bayern would not renew Müller’s contract, which expires at the end of the current season. Müller is set to leave the club after 25 years, during which he played 745 matches and won 33 titles.
