Sudanese Banks Union Urges Citizens in Liberated States to Open Bank Accounts

The Sudanese Banks Union has urged the citizens of the Gezira State and the liberated regions to quickly open bank accounts in preparation for the currency exchange process.

In a press release, the Union explained that this call comes in light of the appeal made by the High Committee for Currency Exchange for the citizens of Gezira State to open accounts at the branches of working banks in these areas, as well as branches expected to reopen to the public. This is to avoid overcrowding, benefiting from the experiences of the states where the currency exchange has already taken place. The statement emphasized that opening accounts early would provide citizens with the advantage of faster deposits, avoiding the risks of congestion and delays, and saving time. It would also enable them to access banking applications, which have started working in most banks, with the remaining banks almost ready to make these applications available to the public.

The statement confirmed that the currency exchange experience in secure states was fully successful. At the same time, it revealed lessons and observations that are important to learn from for the upcoming exchange process. One of the key lessons is that citizens often wait until the last moment to go to the bank, causing them to suffer from overcrowding.

The statement added, “Today, after the currency exchange experience, citizens benefit more than before from banking applications, especially after linking the applications of a number of banks with each other—others are in the process of doing so. The gradual transition to a cashless society via applications and internet-free transfers is expected to proceed smoothly in the coming period, reducing citizens’ difficulties, saving them time, and cutting costs. Therefore, every citizen should stay alert and act promptly in order to achieve the country’s goals and its higher interests, as well as ensure the citizen’s safety and stability.”
