The Preliminary Committee of the Sudanese Doctors Union revealed on Thursday that more than 200 doctors have been killed and 9 female doctors raped by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
Adeeba Ibrahim Al-Sayyid, a member of the committee’s Omdurman-Private Sector branch, told Sudan Tribune that the committee documented the killing of more than 230 doctors, the rape of 9 female doctors, and the abduction of two others during the RSF incursion into Al-Jazira State.
Adeeba explained that around 8,000 doctors have either fled the country or been internally displaced, leading to a severe shortage of medical and health personnel. Additionally, about 85% of hospitals and health centers have shut down, contributing to the spread of diseases and overcrowding at the remaining functional facilities.
