Warning to Coffee Packaging Manufacturers in Kassala

The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization has warned coffee packaging manufacturers in Kassala State against using containers meant for chemicals, pesticides, and fertilizers, due to their significant harm to consumer health and safety.

The Director of the Standards Branch in Kassala and Chairman of the Higher Consumer Protection Committee, Wali Mohamed Madawi, revealed that using unsafe packaging could lead to coffee contamination with harmful chemicals, which could cause serious health problems for consumers. He urged consumers to inspect coffee packaging in cafes and stores to ensure they are made from safe and healthy metal materials. He also called on coffee vendors to ensure they serve coffee in sanitary containers to guarantee the health and safety of their customers.

The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization’s Kassala branch had seized coffee packaging made from containers previously used for chemicals (insecticide containers).

The Director of the Kassala Branch emphasized that the organization works to protect consumers by setting standards and specifications for products, including coffee packaging, alongside regular monitoring and preventive actions. He urged all consumers to ensure their safety by checking the packaging they use to ensure it meets health and safety specifications and to report any violations immediately via the number 5960 for any irregularities in markets, shops, or neighborhoods.
