Implementation Begins for Soybean Cultivation in the Gezira Scheme

On Monday, a meeting was held in Barakat that brought together Eng. Ibrahim Mustafa Ali, Governor of the Gezira Scheme, and Dr. Mohamed Othman Mohamed Nour from Mahjoub Awlad Company, to begin implementing the terms of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the Gezira Scheme Administration and Mahjoub Awlad Company.

The meeting, which was attended by several project and company officials, aimed to turn the MoU’s points into practical actions.

Mahjoub Awlad Company expressed its readiness to cultivate 12,000 feddans of soybeans for seed production, adopting a collective farming approach among farmers at the “Numrah” level.

The meeting agreed on the importance of selecting high-quality land that won’t be affected by drought, with the company committing to land preparation, and providing seeds, DAP fertilizer, and necessary pesticides—all under the supervision of the Gezira Scheme administration.

It was also decided to hold a joint meeting in the coming days between the Gezira Scheme administration, Mahjoub Awlad Company, and soybean seed farmers to finalize the steps required for cultivation in several fields starting June 1st.
