Emergency Fund to Save the Agricultural Season in the Gezira Scheme

The Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Ibrahim Mustafa, during his meeting in Barakat with the leaders of the Central Section farmers, listened to the farmers’ proposals regarding the new agricultural season, which is facing irrigation problems due to silt buildup and weed growth in the canals—issues that require urgent intervention from the Irrigation Administration.

The governor announced his adoption of a proposal to establish an emergency fund to save the new agricultural season. This proposal will be submitted to the Sovereignty Council Presidency and will include real stakeholders such as the farmers, along with several specialized bodies.

He also revealed that multiple funding entities have shown interest in entering into strategic contractual partnerships with the farmers, including Irada Company, which plans to cultivate 100,000 feddans with crops such as cotton, peanuts, soybeans, and maize. Additionally, Mahgoub Awlad Company has expressed readiness to plant a significant area with soybeans. He announced a consultative meeting with the Abu Ashreen dredger owners on Wednesday to agree on the feddan price and to immediately begin dredging operations in accordance with the agricultural cycle.

The governor urged farmers to clean their fields of weeds and trees and to remove the mesquite tree.

Leaders of the Central Section farmers praised the governor’s efforts and his active role in ensuring the success of the new agricultural season.
