On Tuesday, the President of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met with the visiting Mauritanian parliamentary delegation.
The meeting addressed various issues of mutual concern between the two brotherly nations.
Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Idris Ismail, explained in a press statement that the Mauritanian delegation’s visit comes within the framework of the strong relations between the two countries. He noted that it is the first Arab and African parliamentary delegation to visit Sudan during this period, and emphasized that the visit is an expression of solidarity with the Sudanese people during the current crisis. The delegation affirmed that the war was initiated by a rebellious faction that attempted a coup, but through the wisdom and leadership of the Armed Forces, Sudan was able to thwart the conspiracy at its outset.
He added that the Mauritanian delegation pledged to convey the truth about what is happening in Sudan to the Mauritanian people and to the Arab and African public.
For his part, Mauritanian MP Mustafa Al-Dah Suhaib said the meeting addressed the historic and cultural ties between the two countries. He emphasized the strength and resilience of Sudanese-Mauritanian relations against both internal and external challenges. He also conveyed the gratitude of the Sovereign Council’s President to the Mauritanian people for standing by Sudan and supporting the Sudanese community in Mauritania.
