The government of Khartoum State has denied reports circulated by some news outlets and social media platforms claiming that it has taken punitive measures against employees absent from work until mid-June.
In a clarification, the official spokesperson for the state government, Tayeb Saad Al-Din, stated that the official decision only terminates the previously granted leave for employees and instructs them to return to work no later than mid-June.
Saad Al-Din added that some media outlets distorted the content of the decision. He noted that one newspaper asked whether absent employees would be punished, and the response was that “it would be left to the discretion of the head of each governmental unit,” which was misunderstood.
The spokesperson clarified that this discretion refers to evaluating the individual circumstances of employees who traveled abroad and may be engaged in educational institutions or other commitments. Therefore, the decision granted a grace period to allow them to adjust their situation.
