Rare Meteorites Stolen: RSF Accused of Looting Natural Phenomena Exhibi

The Geological Research Authority of Sudan (technical arm of the Ministry of Minerals) has accused the RSF of looting the Natural Phenomena Exhibition, which housed rare meteorites and petrified trees.
Since its founding in 1905, the Authority has monitored and studied natural phenomena such as meteorite falls, earthquakes, and volcanoes through geological missions. It established a dedicated meteorite museum for public and academic visits.
Among the stolen meteorites were:

Um Al-Harayer (North Darfur, 2012), weighing 75 kg

Al-Hareeq Village (North Kordofan, 2011), 2.9 kg

Al-Sanqeer (west of Abu Hamed in Bayouda Desert), 1010 kg, composed of iron and nickel

Al-Abbasiya (South Kordofan) and Al-Tabun (White Nile State)
The Authority stated that the theft was deliberate and organized, as moving such meteorites requires heavy equipment. Their value lies primarily in scientific research, not material worth.
The Authority also reported the destruction of its largest museum, the Sheikh Mohamed Abdel Rahman Exhibit, which contained rare mineral and rock samples collected during field missions.
It described the vandalism of its assets as a criminal and systematic retaliatory act targeting vital state institutions.
