The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the Arab League to present a draft resolution that affirms and strengthens Arab efforts to support peace and development in Sudan, highlighting its resistance to an Emirati attempt to introduce amendments that would undermine the primary objective of the resolution.
In a meeting of the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers held in Cairo, which was preceded by a meeting of the permanent representatives, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of the Sudanese delegation, told the Sudan News Agency that the draft resolution on supporting peace and development in Sudan was discussed.
He added that the Emirati delegation attempted to present itself as a supporter of peace, development, and stability in Sudan by proposing amendments that would alter the core goal of the resolution. However, the Sudanese delegation firmly opposed any amendments or additions that would undermine the resolution’s primary objective. He pointed out that the Sudanese delegation provided evidence before the Security Council, disproving the Emirati stance, emphasizing that the UAE is a key party in the war and supports the rebel militia, and thus cannot appear as though it is committed to peace and the safety of the Sudanese people.
The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs said, “We called on the Arab League and heads of delegations to ensure that the League presents a resolution that is honorable and affirms and strengthens Arab efforts to support peace and development in Sudan.” He added that some Arab countries are working individually with the Sudanese government to support peace efforts and provide humanitarian assistance, for which the Sudanese delegation expressed its gratitude.
