Northern State Brings Good News to Farmers

The General Director of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in the Northern State, Engineer Osman Ahmed Osman, has brought several pieces of good news to the farmers of the state, who were affected during the winter season due to the targeting of the electrical grid by the Rapid Support Forces militia, which had an impact on water supply. These good news include serious government plans to support and enable them to overcome these challenges.

Engineer Osman stated that the state will provide solar energy support through micro-financing programs or the agricultural portfolio, in addition to supplying production inputs and supporting farmers until they are empowered and the summer season is protected through stricter measures to safeguard public security, facilities, and citizens’ gains.

In a statement to SUNA, Osman emphasized that the areas affected by the militia’s attack on the electricity grid are not large, and the damage is concentrated in one area. He pointed out that his ministry is working with confidence to ensure the success of the summer season.

He added that the areas not cultivated in the winter season will be planted in the summer season, with plans to plant 470,000 feddans, especially since the state has more than 2 million feddans suitable for farming.

The Minister also reassured producers and farmers that there are studies for the Meroe Dam canals, particularly the western canal, which can irrigate 4 million feddans quickly. He noted that all projects will be supplied with water from the sea or groundwater.

He stated that several parties have completed the studies and the costs are now known, emphasizing that this will be the state’s project in the near future, aimed at doubling agricultural and production areas in the Northern State.
